چکیده

Background: Thumb pulp defects are commonly due to avulsion injuries. The choice of reconstructive procedure for thumb depends on the amount and type tissue lost. First Dorsal Metacarpal Artery (FDMA) flap is a versatile method with minimum donor site morbidity which provides protective sensation, adequate length, stability good mobility. Method: This study was done over period 2 years involved 15 consecutive cases treated at our institution. patient included 13 men women ranging in age from 16 60 years. were ranged 2cm x 1.5cm 5cm 3cm. Results: All flaps survived completely except one had marginal necrosis healed without need secondary procedure. Donor covered full thickness skin graft that spontaneously. Conclusion: dorsal metacarpal artery offers sensate, pliable coverage soft thumb. It functional Results morbidity. J Bangladesh Coll Phys Surg 2023; 41: 53-57

Sensate first dorsal metacarpal artery flap for resurfacing extensive pulp defects of the thumb.

Finding an appropriate soft-tissue grafting material to close a wound located over the distal phalanx of the thumb, especially the pulp region, can be a difficult task. A sensate first dorsal metacarpal artery flap, mobilized from the dorsum of the adjacent index finger and used as an island pedicle skin flap, can be useful for this purpose. The pedicle includes the ulnar branch of the first do...
